Majorca acquires Ceramica Lord

The industrial and commercial expansion of the Scandiano-based Majorca group is still in progress. Exactly one year on from the takeover of Ceramica Monica and Eurotiles, the group has completed its acquisition of Ceramica Lord (based in Novi di Modena), thereby increasing its range of offerings in the medium to high segments of the wall tile market. The operation will involve the sale of the commercial arm of Ceramica Lord and the incorporation of the Lord and Tiffany brands. In detail, production will be transferred to Majorca’s facility in Scandiano, while the sales network – which extends throughout Italy and includes a strong export activity to Russia and the Middle East – and the corresponding sales strategy will remain independent under a fully-autonomous sales management.

Based on an analysis of the prospective performance of these brands, the Majorca group is expected to make sales of around 700,000 sq.m and generate a turnover of almost 10 million euro within the first 9 months of 2010. This performance will bring Majorca a considerable increase in turnover, up from the current 20 million euro to more than 30 million euro with projected sales of around 3 million sq.m.

Majorca (which reported a 32% rise in turnover in 2009 as a result of cost optimisation, higher output and a 6% increase in average selling price) now has 5 brands capable of covering all segments of the ceramic market with a complete and dedicated range of products. By 2011-2012 the company aims to become one of the small number of ceramic manufacturers with a turnover in excess of 50 million euro.
