Florim Group becomes 100% green

With the installation of a further 26,000 sq.m of photovoltaic panels, Florim can now meet up to 100% of the electrical energy requirements of its Italian factories.

Investments of more than 40 million euros and efficient production process management have enabled Florim Group to achieve new goals regarding protection of the environment and resources. The company’s Sustainability Report 2018 shows that its commitment to reducing consumption and optimising resources (raw materials, energy, water) is bringing continuous improvements in terms of products, process and supply chain monitoring.

Florim is now capable of recovering 100% of the water used in the production process, reusing 100% of unfired production waste and generating up to 100% of the electrical energy needed for the operation of its Italian factories. For this purpose, the group recently started up 26,000 sq.m of photovoltaic panels, which join the existing two cogeneration plants and further 19,000 sq.m of panels. By monitoring raw material suppliers through a software that detects the location of quarries and other key information, Florim is able to create products made from selected raw materials which are blended and transformed into an eco-friendly material.

The Fiorano-based group’s strong focus on sustainable and responsible development has enabled it to obtain numerous certifications: UNI EN ISO 50001 for energy management (the first ceramic company in the world to do so), UNI EN ISO 14001 for environmental management, and ISO 9001 quality management system certification. Florim has also registered with the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), an international certification that measures the environmental impact of products over their entire life cycle. Moreover, the new Industry 4.0 factory in Fiorano Modenese is one of the very few industrial buildings certified class A++++ in Italy.
