Kerafrit takes part in European Sharebox project

The well-known Spanish glaze and colour producer Kerafrit has signed up to the Sharebox project as part of the Spire programme under Horizon 2020 aimed at promoting efficient use of energy and resources in a range of industrial sectors, including ceramics.

The main goal of Sharebox is to develop a secure software platform shared by a number of companies from which to perform flexible management of the resources used in industrial processes. Essentially this means promoting a kind of industrial symbiosis involving the exchange of resources between companies to reduce production costs and the consumption of raw materials, water and energy.

The project is coordinated by the Barcelona-based company Iris and will last 4 years. Along with Kerafrit, the project involves the participation of a total of 15 partners from the chemicals, ceramics (Keros Cerámica) and automotive industries, as well as European universities and research centres such as the Instituto de Tecnología Cerámica (ITC).

The first step in the project involves identifying industrial requirements in order to clearly define the platform specifications.
