Vitra builds new factory in Ireland

23/08/04 - The ceremony to lay the first stone at the new Irish facility being built by the Turkish tile and ceramic sanitaryware manufacturer Vitra Group was held last April in the presence of the Irish Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dick Roche, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkey, Abdullah Gul.

Located in the city of Arklow, the new plant involved an investment of 8 million euro and will allow the company to reach an output of 1.75 million square metres by the end of the year compared to the current figure of 1.1 million square metres. In 2005 sales in Ireland are expected to total 20.8 million euro with a market share of 8%.

The Vitra Group has an annual production of 16.5 million square metres of tiles, and expects to reach 18 million square metres by the end of 2005, while sales are expected to increase by 20% during the current year. The Group exports about 9 million square metres of tiles to Germany, Central Europe, the UK and the United States.
