Kerasan obtains ISO 14001 certification
The Civita Castellana-based company has passed another milestone in terms of the environmental responsibility of its production processes as it steps up its efforts to achieve a sustainable development model.
Kerasan, a ceramic sanitaryware manufacturer based in Civita Castellana (Viterbo), is stepping up its environmental efforts through specific actions aimed at reducing the impact of its production activities. By obtaining the internationally recognised ISO 14001 certification, the company has implemented an environmental management system that allows it to constantly monitor production resources and make intelligent use of energy. The purpose of certification is to demonstrate that the organisation has a management system in place to ensure that its processes are managed correctly from an environmental point of view and that it systematically improves them in an effective and sustainable manner.
Kerasan produces complete vitreous china and fireclay sanitaryware product lines using the most advanced technologies combined with a high level of artisanal skill and the strictest quality controls. The company has always been attentive to the environmental compatibility and safety of its supply chain, from products through to packaging and the production process. Kerasan complies with all relevant waste disposal laws. Waste is disposed of in dedicated authorised landfills, and processing water is recycled, filter pressed and returned to the production cycle. Dust generated in the production departments is captured in wet dust collector booths so that no residue is released into the air. Additionally, the shuttle kilns used for firing the sanitaryware pieces reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions by up to 45% compared to the versions currently on the market. Nitrogen oxide levels can be cut by as much as 55%.
